Virtualdub - load your DV file then press CTRL+1 that will save the image to the clipboard. Or hit file then select save image sequence.

  3. If you have a Firewire interface:

Everything you need is already included with XP...

    Option 1:

Import the DV video (e.g., use Movie Maker) as an AVI file
Open the AVI file in Windows Media Player
Pause the video at the frame you want
Press Ctrl-I to save the video frame as a JPG

    Option 2:

Connect the camcorder via the Firewire
    Start playing the tape
Go to My Computer and open the folder called 'Some Brand Camcorder' (obviously, this will vary!)
You should see the video playing in a small (half size) window
At the top-left of the folder view, there should be an option to "Take a picture" - this will allow you to snap a JPG without having to transfer the DV video to disk.

Common Sense : Although you have it, legally, these days you dont have to use it.
