You could try re-installing the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers drivers or do an upgrade.

If this doesn't solve the problem, I believe your best shot is to flash the device firmware, but this is a very risky operation, if you do it wrong once, the drive will be usable.

The manufacturer, from time to time, releases a new firmware to adjust the laser (increase speed) and help with the detection of certain media, you need to stop by their website and see if they have done this, normally they also provide the utility needed to do the flashing and instructions.

There was a website that used to keep firmwares of all major companies for this purposes, but I have forgotten the link.

  4. Try a new out of the wrapper DVD-RW, erase it and try your burn again.

    karl_skyline,

If you used to get good burns, and now you don't, I'm going to take a wild guess that you changed media about the time the problem started. According to the burn log, you were burning CMC MAG AE1 at 8x, and the burn failed about a quarter of the way through. That's bad media, burning fast, and failing where bad media starts to fail.

You can most likely return to problem-free burning simply by using better media. Here's a good guide to choosing media wisely.
