I tried playing a .mkv file but for some reason it says The file is not recognized by windows or something. I use MPC with latest matroska splitter. I tried other players and even vcd encoders as well but I get the same message. The file is not recognized by windows . I was able to play a .mkv file months ago and this is the first time I had a problem with this video format. Please Help

MPC has a built in mkv splitter. If the file is a valid mkv it will give you some info if there are streams that it can't decode, otherwise it should just play.

    Try: http://www.alexander-noe.com/video/mkvverify/
