  1. Can anyone postively confirm the DMF does produce *PC* readable SVCD discs? I specifically want to make SVCD rather than cDVD or similar because I want it to be playable on BOTH standard DVD players (well, many more play SVCD than DVD on CD apparently) AND PCs using standard DVD software.

I have been trying to use Ulead DMF to make an SVCD but PowerDVD refuses to read it. The CD has a set of XA data files (I can see them under CD Info with EasyCD) but otherwise my PC thinks it is a duff Audio CD with a list of "track.cda" entries rather than a directory structure.

This has happened twice and I don't thing the problem is the writer or PowerDVD as I managed to create an SVCD with Nero. It has a proper directory structure and plays fine on my PC but I would much prefer DMFs menus! I don't have a standalone DVD player so I don't know if it would work on that, but in any case I want it to play with PC based DVD software as well so my CDs can be played easily by friends and family on either.

    PC: Win98SE~Samsung SM308B DVD/CDRW~Athlon 850~320MB.

Note: I also posted this along with an earlier similar question but most answers are relating to original question on cDVD, which is not relevant to my problem, hence the reposting.

    Thanks.

Ulead Movie Factory will unquestionably produce SVCDs that play both in stand alone (Pioneer 343) and software (WinDVD) players. I do not use Movie Factory encoding, but if you produce a test SVCD using TMPGenc, standard SVCD template, and burn using Movie Factory, it should work.

I posted this question elsewhere, but... can anyone get Moviefactory to accept SVCD material with PULLDOWN applied? I tried over and overm and it just will not accept a 23.976/sec rate video with the 3:2 pulldown applied to it (I don't use Ulead to encode either)... As you might expect, the problem once I burn with Ulead is the audio plays the correct speed, and video goes too fast. Is there a work-around?

OK, now for the problem nmunro is having...

    1) What version of PowerDVD? Is it XP? If not, it won't accept SVCD anyway...

    2) Which SVCD layout do you pick? It has a method of a "MPEGAV" directory, and one with a "MPEG2" directory... frankly I can't see the difference (my standalone plays either way)... but maybe PowerDVD only recognizes one of these?

  4. Thanks for the replies, at least I now know it SHOULD be working.

    1. I do have PowerDVD XP and it plays the SVCD created by Nero

    2. I used the default settings (whatever that is) but I'll try the other one just in case.

    I have the same problem.
Ulead MF doesn't accept 3:2 pulldown not for SVCD or DVD either.
I hope someone has a fix because this Soft it's very simple to use.

Someone should write them a letter...

It should be something they add, but somehow I doubt they will... typically 3:2 is only used for transferring FILM to DVD... which to them means "Tool for Copying DVD's". So if they add it, it has the appearance they are making DVD copying safe and easy.

Who knows, if enough people ask they might make a patch...
