    Hi,

Please could someone help me, Every time a burn a movie to DVD and play it in my home dvd player the play back sticks for a couple of seconds then carrys on playing. This only happens maybe once or twice during a film but is very annoying because i can't work out why it would be doing it.

I use AnyDVD and Nero Recode and always rip to hard disk first. i've also tried CloneDVD, DVD Shrink etc and still the same result. I am also assuming that it's a system/hardware problem as i used to burn DVD's perfectly before i brought my new PC.

If it helps im now using a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B, Verbatim 16x DVD-R's. I also make sure the anti-virus and anti-spyware are disabled during the burn and only burn at the minimum speed. I've checked that the DVD drive is DMA and im in Ultra DMA Mode 2.

Does anyone else have any idea's as i dont know where to go from here. Could the DVD drive be rubbish?

    Please Help!

    Thanks

    Hi,
Are you using adhesive (sticky) labels on your DVD's?? Sometimes they can cause playback problems like you are describing however they usually progressively get worse as you watch the DVD.

My first thought was poor quality media. I'm don't use and not familar with Verbatim so I really can't comment on it's quality. I do know that a lot of folks here and elsewhere swear by Verbatim DVD+R DL. But I gather that you're using single-layer DVD-Rs.

One suggestion is try burning at a lower speed. If you're burning at 16x, try 8x or even 4x and see if that helps.

It could just be your DVD player, try running a cleaning disc through it.

    Hi

    Thanks for the replies,

I only burn at the lowest speed possible, i dont think it can be the discs as i've always used these and on my old computer i never had any problems at all.

It also can't be the DVD player because i've tried them in 2 other players and still the image freezes for a few seconds. both these DVD players have previously played the movies made on my old pc with no problems at all.

I'm not sure what to try next!!!!!

When it comes to "ripping" the newer title's , you need to use some of the better tools to avoid the new problems .

Pgcedit + plugins + dvddecryter + dvdshrink or
    Ripit4me

    The rule :

    Burn at 4x only
    Dvd-r only
No more than 4.3 gig per disc

These are called cross compatable with almost all players .

    --------------------

DVD+-RW are not cross compatable ...

    --------------------

I doubt the audio is an issue here , but has this just started after you started using another batch of media (another pack) .

Remember , just because the last 2 x 50 packs of what ever brand worked ... you can always pickup a dud batch .

Last ... if the drive has done quite alot of work , ripping dvd's , burning dvd's , installing games and disc required during play , it may be possible the drive is reaching a point where it should be replaced ...
