Am having a difficult time getting new SATA drive to burn discs. Seems to stall out after the buffer is completed but as the write process starts.

The Plextor 755SA is a replacement for 716SA that would not even read discs when computer was first assembled. With the 755SA, it reads discs, but has problems burning whether is single layer (4.7) or dual layer (8.5). I have the latest firmware version on the DVD drive. I am using verbatim DL discs, but also had issues with memorex DL. The single layer discs were Fuji.

Not sure if it is a compatibility issue with motherboard (Asus A8NSLI Premium) or the drive. It seems as if something is in conflict, but I am not sure where to troubleshoot anymore.

Tried using ImgBurn in the event that there was a problem with CopyToDVD. However, I am able to burn 4.7 DVDs with no issue on Plextor 708A IDE. I have tried adjusting burn speed. I have tried different SATA ports and cables as well.

I have attached a file with most recent error log from CopyToDVD and ImgBurn, as well as one session report from 1 of 2 successful burns I have had in this drive.

Any help or suggestions about this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Post your question at the PLEXTOR FORUM at CdFreaks.com. Do a search on your problem. If I can remember there's a thread on SATA drives having problems with motherboard chipsets particularly with NVIDIA chipset mobos.

    Thank you.

I did do several searches there, but didn't find anything quite like my issue. However, I will give it another go to see if I can get any better search results using nvidia info and sata.

I have had modest success... I am burning my second DVD now. I forgot that the 755SA is SATA I drive. I had it plugged into the NVidia SATA II ports.

The computer takes forever to boot up with this configuration, but I am burning discs now.

    http://www.plextor.com/english/support/support_compatability.html#

by looking at that support from plextor it looks like your mobo is ok with that 755sa drive. have you tried uninstalling the NVIDIA drivers and install the microsoft drivers?

THe response from Plextor tech support was that if the mobo was not listed, they couldn't really say what the problem was one way or the other.

I have searched around and not sure how/where to install original windows drivers. When I searched the microsoft site for ATA driver, it didn't turn up anything...
