Attempting to convert AVI to DVD, with subtitles. As far as I can see I'm doing all the right things. Encoding commences fine (once I found out how to overcome the problem with ffmpegx not knowing where progress.app is located). Everything seems to proceed without problem until it rwches 99% complete, and then the process seems to stall.

I've read other threads in this forum that suggest patience is a virtue, and I have waited for perhaps 30 minutes to see if anything happens, but it doesn't. Then, when I try to access the log by clicking on the "i" in progress.app, progress.app crashes.

Also the Preview button in ffmpegx does not work for me.

I've been able to repeat this, so it's not a one off. Any ideas most welcome.

    Regards
    Graham

Are you low on disk space/ram? Progress is a memory pig, and that can provoke instabilities if you have insufficient ram/HD swap space.

If you are running any other apps while running ffmpegx, shut those down. Let ffmpegx have total reign.

And since clicking on the blue "i" before Progress is done causes crashing, don't do that.

That said, often a "99% complete" indication simply means that the video transcoding is done, and now it's working on audio transcoding, then muxing, then... Depending on duration and complexity (to say nothing of your CPU's capabilities), it may take longer than 30 minutes to complete all of those tasks. Patience really is a virtue with this app.

Another thing to try is to set ffmpegX to Open Terminal Window. This opens Terminal.app instead of Progress.app . Now Progress won't lock up or crash, as it is bypassed, at the small price of lacking a graphical progress bar. Let us know if that gets you the final percent you needed.
