I tried VLC but it didn't play which was surprise as it will play most formats. I found one called Wimpy Standalone FLV Player on http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/wimpy_standalone_flv_player.html which seems to work ok but lacks any features. Will persist until I can across something better

go and download and install the Quicktime Plugin
    Perian
Once you do that, FLV will play NATIVELY in QT
much like having Flip4Mac play WMV NATIVELY
    in QT.

Plays all Youtube and google video downloads thus far
I've tested, and allows you to cut and and edit and re-save
    flv to .mov, .mpeg, etc.

Well in my case VLC plays all my .flv files. I guess YMMV.
Thanks terryj for the heads-up on Perian and Qt for playing .flv, I didn't know that! Very cool.

Try mplayer - no jumping to parts of a clip, but it should play from start to end with no problems.
