I downloaded and installed the ffmpeg for Mac 10.4.8, and downloaded the binary files but the Mac isn't recognizing the wmv file that I want to convert and it didn't recognize the binary files mencoder or mplayer ( they have that grayed out icon that you get when the Mac doesn't recognize a file).

    What am I missing here?

    Thanks in advance.

First - this should probably be posted in the ffmpegx forum, or at least the Mac forum. A mod will probably see this after I reply, and move it.

I'm not sure, but I think ffmpegx may require the Flip4Mac Quicktime component to be installed, to be able to handle WMV files. I always thought ffmpeg and mencoder had some support for WMV even without it, though. It sounds as if the packages may not have been installed correctly (I think some Intel Mac users have had problems with installing; I haven't looked into it as I only have my old PPC. )
