  1. I can capture great video with VD, but no audio. I am capturing with a firewire and can see that audio appears to be captured, because the audio indicators are active on the right side of the screen below the video indicators. However, when I open the AVI file in Vegas Video the audio track is a flat line. I have tried various setting combinations to no avail.
    Thanks for any advice

I assume you are using the latest version of VD? VD 1.6 will accept Type 1 or Type 2 DV. I'm not sure which one Vegas uses. There are lossless converters in 'Tools' to change the type after the DV is transferred. Did you check in VD to see if there is audio there?

  4. I am using VD 1.6.16 and tried the WinDV and still capture no sound. Tried MS movie maker for grins and that does capture audio, however, when I open it in Vegas only the video track is there.

    What are you capsferring from?

Note that WinDV doesn't play the audio while capsferring but it does include the audio in the DV-AVI file.

Have you tried both DV types, 1 and 2?

  7. What audio format is the original DV recording?

DV supports a variety including 32kHz/16-bit, 32kHz/12-bit, 44.1kHz/16-bit and 48kHz/16-bit, but not all software supports all formats. Most notably, 44.1kHz/16-bit is very rarely supported.

  8. Tried DV 1 and that now allows for audio play back in MS Classic Media Player. However, when I open it in Vegas for editing there is a flat line audio track.

Vegas probably only supports Type2 (I don't use it so I can't say for sure.) You can easily convert it to Type2 by opening in Vdub 1.6 and save as avi with both Video and Audio set to Direct Stream Copy.

  10. Tried the direct stream and save as AVI. Now there is no audio track at all when I open it in Vegas.

  11. Can you post a 1 second long (or shorter) DV AVI clip somewhere? I have some tools that can look at the DV information - it may reveal something.
