I previously posted asking how to recover a .VOB with CRC errors on a disc I know is not encrypted.

I discovered that the freeware version of IsoBuster has the ability to do this by replacing unreadable sectors with either all 0's or random data. Which choice would be best or would it not make any difference?

Does anyone know how a standalone player would handle these "replaced" sectors vs. how it would handle unreadable sectors on the original due to scratches or it being dirty etc?

    Thanks,

  2. You create mutiple mpeg/vob to omit those sectors.

I don't understand. The bad sectors prevent the file from being copied at all unless I use IsoBuster. So what would the process be to split it into multiple Vob's? Why would that be better than just replacing the unreadable sectors with 0's or random data?

My thought was if the file had a few bad sectors that caused CRC errors when it was copied, that you could replace the unreadable sectors with something so you can get the file copied. Then when it played it would maybe go blank for a sec or two when it hit those replaced sectors, or it might not even be noticable at all.

  5. CRC of 0s are not 0s, and CRC of 1s are not 1s.

On a DVD that has hard errors in the VOBs, amny of them still can be read by DVDshrink. The user can use the start/stop tool to stop before the error start, and re-start after the error occured.

One can also setup DVDdcrypter to ignore error and rip.

You can also tried read the DVD on another drive, becaus not all DVD drive read the same.

Those sectors with hard errors is going to be missed, extract as much as possible.

I ran into a problem with one of my DVDs that was really hard to copy. Some sectors of the dvd were scratched and unable to read for a copy to be made. I did finally accomplhish a complete copy with some work
You have to have 2 dvd roms (readers )
    Using
    dvd decryptor
    1 click copy dvd
    liteon dvd burner/
    sony M182 burner
I tried to read with the copy software and kept getting read errors (also using DVD43)
I tried to defab it still read errors
    So heres what did work
i made 2 folders on desk top (I always use desktop for quick reference)
Using DVD decryptor and the sony burner i copyied the DVD to one of the files (problems in VOB section 1.04)
Then using DVD decryptor & the lite on burner I copied to the other foler on desktop (problems in VOB sector 1.03 & 7.01)
So now I had the missing VOb 1.04 but in the wrong folder
Opened both folders cut the bad 1.04 in say folder 1then cut and the good 1.04 out of folder say 2 and pasted into the correct area in folder 1
Now I had the complete dvd
Opened the 1 click copy and worked like a charm
    2 burners do read differantly
