Hi i am new to burning dvd discs and have 25 mpeg movie files that are 178mb each or around that size and I want to burn them all to one disc or as many as possible to one disc. I was told on another forum to use nerovision express but when i tried this it seemed to increase the file size and instead of one file being 178mb it was around 600mb...so at that size only about seven can fit onto one disc.

So i would appreciate it if anyone could help

    Thanx

Either burn them "as is" as data, or encode to DVD specs, where you can expect ~2 hours / DVD (with good quality). At VCD quality, you can get up to 7 hours / DVD.
Source file size is totally irrelevant when converting from one format to another. Only runtime is.

  4. If you put them on DVD as is your DVD player probably will not play them. They have to be converted to VOB files, etc. to work in a DVD player.
I suggest downloading SVCD2DVD and using that to make your DVD. I think that there is a free trial period with it. Your mpg files will not be re-encoded (as long as they are DVD compliant) so you will not lose any quality in the process. Add the mpgs as assets, make a menu and presto you have a set of DVD folders (VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS) to burn to DVD. You can burn the two folders as data to a DVD then you can play it on your DVD player. I can't tell you how many of your files will fit on a DVD without having to shrink it down. You may be able to get most if not all on one DVD.
I actually would suggest that you buy SVCD2DVD. It's only $20.00 and Chrissyboy (the author) is a great help when called upon.

If they were going from 178mb to 600mb were you converting them one at a time and into what format ?

I have been using ConvertXtoDvd for some time through a few updates and it works great.

What are the running time's of each vid ?
I have put up to 12 - 20min. 178mb xvids/divx to a single dvd and they look excellent.
You can make a basic menu with it also all in one shot ready to burn with chapters ect.
You can also set it to target a dvd5 or dvd9.

Just tried ConvertXtoDvd and it says that one file is 506mb of media even though it is 178mb

just want to know why the size increases so much

  8. You do realize that by using ConvertX2DVD on your mpg files that you are decreasing the quality of your videos? ConvertXsDVD will re-encode where as SVCD2DVD will not as long as they are DVD compliant.

What are the spec's of the orginal mpg files ?

Any program that convert's them to DVD spec's will increase the size of the final video.

Looking at your photo i see the originals are 640X480 (not in DVD specs), they are being converted to 720X480 (which is in DVD specs. plus i'm sure it's changing the bitrate, ect.
    And your original

    are not mpg's but AVI's.

If you load 12 - 178mb files into ConvertXtoDvd "AT THE SAME TIME" and set the target size to a dvd5 all you have to do is burn them when it is done.
To convert a lower video format to dvd spec's you are ALWAYS going to get an increase in size with the final file.

I put 12 - 45 minute XviD's into ConvertXtoDvd and forgot to change the target size from dvd5 to dvd9 and although i ended up with 12 - 45 minute episodes that would fit on a single dvdr and it was watchable, it was below what is acceptable for me.

12 - 20-23min videos is about my limit but try any amount you want and personally find acceptable.
