I'm having trouble encoding a file using ASS subtitles. No matter what options you choose for them, it will always use the default settings when encoding.

I'm trying to use a different font (Osaka), UTF-8 encoding, font size 2 and position 98, but it always shows up as the default (Arial, one of those ISO things, font size 1 and position 80).

I'm using a matroska file as the source and trying to output it to a MPEG4 using mencoder.

    matroska info:

    video: h264, yuv420p, 1280x720
    audio: mp3, 48000 Hz, stereo

output (for some reason it still says the preset is AVI DivX even though I've changed it to MPEG4) info:

    video: mencoder mpeg4, 640x352, 1265kbps, 25 fps, no crop
    audio: mp3, 48000 Hz, 128 kbps

If you need any more information about any of the options I'm using, please ask. Thank you for any help you can provide.

There is a bug in the latest mencoder binaries concerning subtitles. You have to use the binaries that came with version 0.0.9s instead. These will accept different fonts, location and sizes.

There may be a problem that this old version won't decode the h264 mkv correctly, so maybe you are forced to do a double conversion, mkv->avi w/o subs with the latest mencoder and then avi->avi with subs using the old mencoder.

That's what I did with some files I encountered.
