I am using version 1.5.20.62. I record from the TV with my Panny DMR-ES10 in LP and then use the above prog. to burn the RAM disk to -R.

I have noticed that even though the original recording was in wide screen the finished -R disk plays back in 4:3. I can't find any way to adjust this in the help. Any ideas ?

Is the video itself flagged as 16:9 ?

If not, use ReStream or DVD Patcher to add the 16:9 flag to the video itself. If TDA cannot author widescreen (16:9) author as 4:3, then use IFOAR2WS to correct the IFO files for 16:9 playback.

Its flagged as 4:3. Had a look at the above programms.... it seems complicated....Restream keeps telling me I have put the wrong files in. I was hoping there was a simple adjustment in the TMPGEnc DVD author or on the Panny.

ReStream will only work with the mpeg file. IFOAR2WS will work after authoring, however there are no guarantees that the player will respect the IFO if the mpeg isn't flagged also. I believe not flagging 16:9 material is a Panny issue. Whether or not TDA does 16:9 will be in the help files, so do some reading.

If you want to do it properly, rip the disc to your HDD, use VOB2mpeg to extract the mpeg files, use restream to change the AR flag to 16:9, then author as 16:9 with an authoring tool (TDA is it can, otherwise find something suitable for your needs).

There is. In the "Source" section on the fleft side, you have your Track listing. Hit the "Settings" button. There's a section that will let you flip the switch over to 16:9. I've had to do that every so often when I accidentally render a 16:9 project in 4:3.

If you don't see that, send me a screenshot of what you have. I'm using one of the more recent versions of DVD Author.

I tried emailing a screen shot but it came back un deliverable. In the settings aspect ratio it does say 4:3 but there is no button to change it to 16:9. Which version do you have?

I'm currently using version v.2.1 of TDA (TsunamiDVDAuthorPro) but can only remember aspect ratio setting for menu creation. There shouldn't be such a setting for the whole project since any project can contain tracks different in aspect ratio and this works in TDA. When importing video, TDA takes aspect ratios from file metadata.
The files can be corrected either (before re-authoring) in a MPEG editor like TMPGMpegEditor by setting the aspect ratio for target file (DVD tracks are imported by dragging .IFO), or in VOBs/IFOs with DVDPatcher (patch whole file mode) + IFOAR2WS as recommended above.

P.S. Just looked into it. TDA 2.1 supports changing aspect ratio (selectable via edit button for track) for individual tracks. Unlike TDA 1.5-1.6 it also has encoding and transcoding (like DVDShrink) capabilities.
