Howdy!! I realize that somewhere in this vast library of information is my answer, but I just can't seem to find it. I have been trying to burn a VIDEO_TS folder to DVD (and make it playable on my DVD player). I have wasted about 6 discs trying to get it to work, but to no avail. My player keeps telling me that it does not recognise the format. I've tried Imgburn, and TmPGEnc. I'm a newbie whose really tried following the tutorials out there, but I have no idea what's going wrong on this one. Heck, I don't even know if this is under the right topic. Heeeeelllp!

Ahhh, I deserved that. I'm using Memorex DVD-R discs. I have no idea what software was used to create the folder. I have a Panasonic Progressive scan DVD player that has never given me trouble reading burned DVDs in the past, but as I'm a newbie, it was gonna happen sooner or later. I do have ImgTools, but I have no idea what to do with it. If you think its the tool to use, point me to a tutorial and I'll go happily on my way. Tanks fer the quick response. one day, maybe I won't be a newbie anymore........hehehe.

  5. You could try a couple of progs toburn the video ts folder - try nero 7,or copy to dvd, both will allow u to write the folder and allow it to play on a standalone player, obviously depending on the size of the file..........hope this helps

See if your VIDEO_TS folder is DVD compliant, try opening it using DVD Shrink. If it's ok then try burning with ImgBurn, it's very easy. Have a look at this little video I made, you will need the Xvid codec to view it. http://www.steveryan.f2s.com/ImgBurn.avi

ok, the bummer is I've tried using ImgBurn 2. I even just looked up the tutorial to be sure I used it correctly. I chose the file system ISO9660+UDF from the options tab. Is that my problem?

No, that's what you should use.

It has .ifo, .bup, .vob files. All labeled VTS_01_1.VOB, etc.

Sounds OK. Do you have the (empty) AUDIO_TS folder too? Some players requre that to accept it as a Video DVD.

You didn't mentioned yet, did you try to play on your PC the folders you want to burn? Was it a copy of a commercial DVD with another region setting (that could be the problem with standalone) or smth. Yesterday I dealt with a relatively new DVD already ripped to an image (not by me). I ran it through DVDFabPlatinum that kept saying everything was OK and the final folders weren't playable. I only succeeded after using RipIt4Me that works well with newer discs. Try playing your video in MediaPlayerClassic (by dragging VIDEO_TS.IFO) if you didn't yet.

'kay. so I tried to play the folders on the PC-Success!!! (using Nero 6). How the heck do you burn a folder with RipIt4Me? When I search a folder, it opens with windows exlporer, but with no further commands. I tried to drag it to the RipIt4Me window-no luck. You guys are great for sticking with me on this and trying to help, by the way. Is there anyway to find out where (what country) this originated? Could it be that this is from another region? I also added the AUDIO_TS folder, but I'm hesitant to burn yet another disc to find that it doesn't play. Why the heck isn't there a standard for this yet?

  17. 1.Use IfoEdit or DVDDecrypter ->IFO mode to see what format it's in(eg PAL or NTSC),if PAL then you need to convert.
2.Is the VIDEO_TS folder from a pressed DVD or is it homemade? If pressed then you need to use DVDFab Decrypter to strip the protections.
3.Ripit4me is for ripping not burning.

ahhhh, RipIt4Me is like AnyDVD. Got it. It's from a pressed DVD as far as I know. Will the protections cause it to not play on my standalone DVD player? I have it on my hard drive right now.

According to DVDDecrypter, This DVD is good for regions 1-8, and has no protection. I can't seem to find where it tells me what format (as there is no mention of PAL or NTSC. In the input window it shows the file tree with the VTS files with a subfile called a PGC. I'll try IfoEdit and see what the results I have with that. At this rate, I'm going to have one heck of a collection of DVD tools that I just have no idea how to use. hehehe.

Search this site for "PAL to NTSC" - You'd be surprised at how many threads there is about that subject alone.
That said, it's not a simple task. If you value your sanity, get multi TV system hardware (player & TV).
