I was recently checking out youtube.com and have uploaded a few videos but whatever they do in their conversion process makes them look like crap. I've seen some pretty good quality videos on their site and was just wondering if anyone here has figured out how to get a really great looking video to survive their conversion process and actually look good. Anyone?

Umm... I think sacajaweeda is either hoping for a way to upload videos onto YouTube without having them turned into the blocky low-res versions you usually see there, or merely to know if it's even possible (and how), not methods of converting YouTube video to AVI.

  4. If you know the YouTube server admins, you can call them and tell them not to compress your videos.

but seriously...you can't do anything about it. All of these online places compress video at the lowest quality. If you want to share a high quality copy with someone else, send them a DVD in the mail, or post an ISO on Usenet for all to see.

  5. A couple of tips from their help page:

Longer videos require more compression to fit in the 100MB size limit, and the quality will go down as the length of the video goes up.

We recommend the MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format at 320x240 resolution with MP3 audio. Resizing your video to these specifications before uploading will help your clips look better on YouTube.

  7. A few weeks back I email youtube about it, no answer.

I asked them, if I upload a mpg4 video in specific bitrate
their server will not re-encode it.

At least I could run a high/2pass encode on it before uploading.

What youtube need to do is switch to FLV6 and also boost the bitrate to 800

I wonder how high their bandwidth bill is every month?

BTW, click on my youtube video and give me 4 or 5 stars.

Aside from post-pubescent masturbation fanstasy, what was the point ? It is a fine line between this type of obsession, and being an all out stalker. It's loud, the editing is average, and worship is sad for someone your age. Sorry, dude, one star from me.

having her move her mouth and not hearing her is not good.
It turnsout most of her clips when she is not talking, she is using fruit.

I got 2000 hits, so it most be something to it.

It's loud beause I want different, how many people have heard of Nizter Ebb?

Editing is pretty good consider I only used the free MS moviemaker.

What happens if you upload an flv file? Does their system re-encode it even if it is within their specs? As for switching to vp62. Are there any command line encoders (other than this)?

  17. I've been looking into this as well, wanting to create YouTube videos that are as good as possible. I do all my video work in the Adobe suite of tools. Lately I've been outputting as Windows Media, using a bitrate calculator and two-pass rendering to create a file as close to 100MB as possible, then let YouTube do their thing. Results are acceptable.

    Other tips are appreciated.

That "baby" video was atrocious. One star, because you begged for a rating.

I'm not getting anywhere with it. I tried using the Riva FLV encoder at various different resolutions and bitrates but to no avail. Most of the stuff is a far cry from 100mb though, being less than a minute or so long.

You can see almost all youtube vids in high quality, just download them and view them using ffdshow+post processing. The postprocessing clears up all the blockiness and results in very high quality.

use mobile.Net that comes bundled with avi.Net, that wiil resize the video to 320.240 xvid and then upload it to youtube.

i use riva flv encoder, files are around 7/8 megs with good quality.
I love it when a plan comes together!

  22. It appears that the maximum bitrate YouTube encodes the FLV files is ~300Kbps at 320X240

DivX has an online video community called Stage6 (www.stage6.com) where the video quality is far better than YouTube's and you can download clips without any extra software.

    For quality comparison: http://stage6.divx.com/Slow_Motion/show_video/1021427

It's best to compare in full screen mode
