I hope this isn't a stupid question, so please be nice.
I just got the nero 7 ultra edition & I was wondering if there is a program that is the same thing as the VOB2MPG?
If so, please tell me what it is under and what it is called, I am not familiar with the terms, I had to teach myself.
Thanks so much!

I can tell you only from my experience using Nero 6, but I assume if you test on Nero 7, you can determine the same results.
Unless there's a better one somewhere, I use Nero Vision Express (NVE) to "convert" .vob files to .mpg files, and ONLY that. All the other ones I’ve tried out there did not give me the results I wanted or gave me problems (personal experience). I’ve tried VOB2MPG but liked NVE better (and didn’t need to install .net framework from Microsoft)
Here’s how I do it, and it has NEVER given me any problems.
-First of all, start NVE (obviously) and adjust your settings for your Import Directory. This is where your .mpg files will end up. Click More -> Configure -> Folders tab and go to Imported Video Folders and select the desired directory. Make sure you have enough extra HD space (which is about the same size as the .vob files). Now you’re ready to begin.
-Choose Make DVD, then DVD-Video.
-Choose Add Video Files
-Go to the directory where you have the .vob files that you wish to convert and load them. (You may need to make sure they’re in the proper order in the “File Name” line, which you can adjust manually.)
-Select Open.
-VERY IMPORTANT: A message should pop out mentioning that VOB files may contain multiple segments, etc. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS select Yes to this otherwise it may not convert properly and you will get bad results. I personally don’t know why anybody would choose No to save time. That’s like skipping your workout to save time in getting a toned body.
-Let NVE do its thing with analyzing, etc. Depending on the size of the file and PC speed this could take a while. When it posts it as a thumbnail it’s done.
-Voila! Your fully converted .mpg file will be in the Imported Directory you selected. Shut off NVE and it’s all yours for any other application you may need to work with it.
Please note:
-If your finished .mpg file is not in the Imported Directory, that means that NVE had nothing to convert. Your .vob file was not segmented and that’s why NVE loaded it real fast in the first place. All you have to do then is just go to that .vob file and just change its extension to .mpg. That’s it! NVE will only convert those that need conversion.
-As well, there’s an Export function at the bottom in NVE which you may want to try. I don’t use it because that would mean encoding it to another format. I personally only want the straight .mpg file so I can edit it, and encode it on another application since I don’t like NVE for editing. I however go back to NVE to do the final burn with the finished .mpg.
-A .vob file is really an .mpg file with a different extension but may have one fundamental difference. A .vob file is an .mpg file only if it’s not segmented. You must make sure to remove that segmentation (such as above). I personally don’t know the difference unless I try it with NVE first. Only if it’s not segmented can you just change the extension to from .vob to .mpg. Once more, NVE will only convert .vob files that need to be converted, otherwise it's just an extension you need to change.
-If you decide to skip a step and just change the extension to .mpg so you can work with it, you may end up with an mpeg file that is all weird and dysfunctional. Your application may crash while editing. You can always tell it’s a bad mpeg file when loading it to Windows Media Player. You will find that it doesn’t cue right, and the times are all wrong, etc, etc.
Hopefully that helps. I’ve given these instructions to several others as well who have had good results. I have never used Nero 7, but I don’t think it will be different. Good luck.I hate VHS. I always did. -
And another thing too. I recommend loading .vob files from a hard drive instead of directly from a DVD. Maybe it's because my last PC was much slower than my current one, but in the past I've gotten some unstable results unless I copied the DVD first to my hard drive. I also recomend getinig an external HDD to work with video. Hey, I have 6 of them going! Good luck!

DVD Decrypter can also convert VOBs to MPEG-2 files. https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=224833

Hey, no problem. I've been doing this for years and find it's the best method for getting the exact .mpg equivalent of the .vob file. Many people, even so-called experts on the 'net, think that all you have to do is change the extension from .vob to .mpg and that solves the problem. No way!
Then they blame their applications when they don't get the right results.
Speaking of, even other applications. like Ulead VideoStudio 10 say they handle .vob files when they truly don't. They come out with errors. Even though VideoStudio is a great editor for .mpg files, I would rather convert the .vob file to .mpg first through Nero.
Anyhow, I can tune in to this thread if you have any questions. Good luck.
P.S. Took a look at your link. What's with that dude all heated up with that chick? LOL!I hate VHS. I always did.
