    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a mpeg4 player in a boat with 2 lcd screens one lcd is 4:3 and the othe 16:9.
any xvid i play has the right aspect ratio on the 4:3 ( with bars top and bottom)but is squashed horizontally on the wide screen lcd with the same black bars making people fat

Changing the tv type on the player has no effect running mpeg4. But does work with Mpeg2.s

It seems as though with Mpeg4's it assumes that it is always a 4:3 display!

Any advice as i would like to watch avi's on the wide screen in the right aspect ratio

    Regards

    Steve

How do they look on your computer? It's possible the black bars are part of the video.

Have to tried mpeg4modifier ? You can see the pixel and display aspect ratios in the file and alter them as needed.

    guns1inger,

    Thanks dor your reply,

I have tried mpeg4modifier, i changed the aspect ratio of an xvid to 4:3 and played it in WMP, it played at the new aspect ratio.
However when i put it in my player it still played it as if i had done nothing to it! ( that is it was still stretched.

Not all players (hardware and software) observe all flags correctly.

That said, you might also look at changing the pixel aspect ratio instead of the display aspect ratio.
