  1. I wanna watch this TV show but because its encoded in h264 my computers graphics card cannot process it.

I am using an Intel Celeron 2.7 Gigaherts with 768mb memory but my graphics card is an AGP GEFORCE MX 4000 64 MB.

What kind of graphics card should I upgrade to? I'm considering a GEForce 6200 256mb, but I dont know if that will cut it... can someone help me out?

    What is the resolution ?

I have no problems with 720p using an AGP ATI 9600XT. The celeron might be more of an issue than the GFX card.

It's the decoding software that makes the difference. I'm convinced the Graphics Hardware hype is just that - Hype. Save the $$$ on the new Nvidia card, it won't make enough of a difference.

    Spend $10 and install CoreAVC - https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=CoreAVC

This software WILL allow you to play h264 on your system.

You can even test it with the following app: http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/timeCodec.exe

I would say the processor is far more intensive than the GPU would be.

Graphics Cards, though may contribute very little to video editing and playback, were mainly designed for one main purpose, "Gaming".

It's not the graphics card. I can play x264 back on a Celeron 400 MHz, but i'd only get about 4 fps. It's CPU and config.

The important bit is SSE2 support by your CPU, which is apparently a requirement of all of the h264 decoders.

I run an Athlon XP 1900+, lists as not supporting SSE2 in the link above, and I decode h264 just fine. I use CoreAVC Standard Edition.

So either the Athlon XP supports SSE2 or SSE2 is not a requirement.
