    Hello,

I would like to submit the following question to you:

I'm trying to connect a camcorder to a pc in order to capture real time video, or image stream. The input should be processed in real time by myself using java or c++.
I would like to find a suitable capture card that can do the capture in real time or any other way to do it (by firewire for example).

    Thank you

  2. I'd recommended the Firewire option and use Microsoft's DirectShow technology. Microsoft provide a tremendous amount of documentation, sample applications etc etc to allow you to write your own C++ applications to process the video (our DV processor software is built on DirectShow).

Additionally, Intel's OpenCV provides C++, DirectShow and Python support.

Firewire is straighforward if you use DirectShow, but in JMF there is api only running in linux at the moment. I read about your software, can you advice me for a suitable and tested camcorder?

    Thanks

  4. Since you are in the UK, you'll probably want a PAL-based camcorder. Most of our testing has been with NTSC units though two of them can handle PAL. Both worked fine. We have some beta testers in a number of PAL countries who have reported good success with a variety of brands including Sony, JVC and Panasonic.

Basically, any modern DV camcorder with a Firewire connection will work.

I guess, will all that, you require a good graphics card, at least 128mb, i use an ATI mob 7500 but i need to get a new one. Can you recomment me some cards? As far as the camcorder I think of buying one SONY HANDYCAM DCR-TRV 255e or similar.

    Thank you
