    Hi,

I downloaded an xvid avi but what to be able to watch it on any regular DVD player....can anyone suggest the best conversion process that would prevent a big reduction in quality?

    Thanks

Of the one-click apps, convertxtodvd or its freeware predecessor, divx2dvd.

http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm shows you the traditional or "long" way.
    If in doubt, Google it.

many would say VSO is better, others will say CCE is what can give the best quality

is up to you, if you are not satisfied with the "big brothers" quality output then you may try a CCE conversion Gui

    right ?!

ConvertXtoDVD is fast and easy, with reasonable quality given the source you are likely to have (i.e. Xvid or Divx with a lowish bitrate). On a 3.0 gHz system you should get a DVD is 45 - 55 minutes.

CCE Basic/ProCoder Express will give substantially better quality, however to exploit them you need to learn some basic avisynth, and they will take 3 times as long to encode if you do it properly. Both are substantially faster than tmpgenc, however the bulk of the guide gievn to you (above) still holds.

I know many people with Dual Core CPU that converts with CCE with a speed ratio of 5, it only takes 40 minutes to convert a full movie in OPV, and converting audio and video simultaneously with 100% CPU usage without any system hung up, using AVI2ISO conversion simple GUI. Used mostly by brazilians and portuguese

I don't think CCE is that slow, it depends however what type of machine people have

    That's my opinion
