ffmpegX's "Progress" app seems to be using excessive RAM and CPU cycles when encoding with mpeg2enc presets. On my system (iMac G5, 2 Ghz, 1 GB RAM), Progress uses between 10 and 15% CPU and 125 MB of RAM. This seems excessive for an app that is only supposed to indicate what percentage of the encoding is complete and to display the activity log.
One thing that I've noticed (and that irks me) is that when I click the "i" to see the log, Progress can take several minutes to open the log. Activity Monitor reports Progress as "not responding." While Progress is attempting to display the log, my whole system becomes sluggish and very unresponsive. It seems that the mpeg2enc presets are generating excessively large log files. I never have this problem using the ffmpeg presets, which generate very modest log files and only use 4% CPU.
Is this a bug or is it normal for mpeg2enc? And is there a way to reduce Progress' CPU and RAM usage?
