I domnloaded a 698mb avi, and then using aprogramme called SVCD2DVD converted it so I can burn it to DVD using sonic. Now I've converted the file Sonic tells me it is to big to fit onto a dvd disc. Do the files get larger when converted? Is there a way to compress the file so it will fit? and also is there a programme I can use to split the file and put it on 2 dvds?

    Sorry if I sound stupid!

  3. Answer to all three questions is YES.

How big is the Video_TS folder? Did you feed Sonic seperate video and sound files, and was the sound AC-3? Older versions of sonic would convert this to LPCM, which makes the audio file about 10 times larger. Workaround is to mux the files before giving to Sonic to author.

BTW, Sonic is a poor capture program, bad encoder, limited authoring, with barely passable burning features. It is, however, one of only two progs I have found which can cut a captured 24FPS progressive file with pulldown flags and AC-3 sound and maintain audio synch. So it's not ALL bad.

I would also suggest you do some reading here as there is an awful lot of information you really need to know.
