    Hi everyone:

I have a game that I want to play with my friends and my family via the Internet. Is is possible to set it up myself? If yes, what do I have to do?

This is only a game for fun with my friends. ABSOLUTELY NO GAMBLING.

    Hi,

This is possible, but could cost you some money:

    1. You need a fast internet connection and a dedicated machine to set up as server.
    2. Static IP that you could lease from your ISP.
    3. You friends and family members need to purchase a copy of the game ( Serials numbers are checked against a master server in some games).
    4. If your game does not come with a server version, you need to download from the game developer or distributor the server version.

Now, I have no idea what game you plan to play. The fastest the Internet connection, the better, you also need to increase ram for at least 512 megabytes.

If the game you want to play is like a tetris game, maybe you don't need so much speed or ram.

As a follow up to my previous post, I need to mention another important point.

You also need to consider the security side of your server configuration, such as patching your OS and or game. If a linux version of your game server exists and you decide to use that version, you also need to at least configure the box to minimize the possibility of an intruder gaining access to that machine.

Good luck and don't give up

    Thank you.

The game I want to play with my friends/family was developed by a French company: Micro Application. It's a card game called "Barbu - Roi de Coeur" (Bearded - King of Heart).

I wrote to the game manufacturer, asking them about possibility of playing their game on the Internet. Their answer was "no way".

However, some friends of mine told me that with Instant Message, many games can be shared and played via the Internet. "It's just like allowing someone to download files from your computer via IM.", a friend told me.

I don't know whether or not my game has a server version.

    Cheers

Could you explain with more details the "no way" part?, if the developer said this, the possibility of a server version is none.

    Hi Abbadon:

This is what Micro Application wrote:

Il n'est pas possible de jouer en réseau dans le jeu "Le Barbu"
Vous êtes seul face à 3 adversaires "ordinateurs".
Vous pouvez uniquement modifier le niveau des joeurs ( débutant, club ou expert )

    My translation :P :

It is not possible to play the game "Le Barbu" online.
You play with 3 "computer" opponents by yourself.
You can only change the expertise level of the players (beginner, average or expert)

    Thank you for your time.

  8. That indicates the game itself is single-player only. If your friends can not play with you while sitting in the same room, there is absolutely ZERO possibility that they could play over the internet. Possibly watch you play, but that's it. Find another game.
