For those with a Fry's Electronics nearby, they're doing the 300GB Seagate 16MB cache 7200rpm (PATA/IDE) for $90 deal again, no rebates. They have deals on a few other Seagate drives too, including externals.

    Great deal!

  3. I'm trying to control my wallet. Everytime Outpost (Fry's) sends me
an email they have a good deal on a hard drive, and I usually
    buy it!

By the way, after you check-out look at the onscreen invoice
to make sure you actually got free shipping (if it says Free Shipping).

Thanx for the heads-up on that. The print ad here (Sunday paper) sez it's a SATA, tho' . . . .

  5. Good deal but would be better if SATA. (I'm trying to convert all drives to SATA without adapters.) I missed the previous deal they had with Seagate 400GB SATA for $99.

NewEgg has Seagate 320GB (perpendicular recording) SATA II or IDE drives for $95.
    or
Western Digital 320GB SATA II for $90 after $10 rebate.

Just that the pretty cables and the convoluted instruction booklets aren't included.

  7. I have two drives now so I have no more space on my mobo for another hookup. How could I add another drive and how much more would that cost?

If you want those drives to last, use them as intended, IDE/PATA connections. RAID 0 will kill the drives in a year or two. RAID 0 is not suggested, and quite honestly, not needed.

Find yourself a Promise TX2 UltraATA/133 card. That should run about $50-100 or so. Use it for any hard drives or DVD-ROMs (not burners!).

Fry's is a dangerous place to be in: you always end up buying something or spending more than you intended to.

Every now and then they have Seagate 400GBs with 16MB cache for ~$100 - $110, Better price per /mb if you're willing to wait. I picked up a couple a month or so back at $110 and they've since been on for $100.

  17. The other day they had the Seagate 400gig pata for $99 with free shipping outpost.com. I purchased the 300 gig Sata2 drive in store a couple of days ago for $89.99.

Here is a cool page that posts the frys deals online:

This makes my Maxtor 250gb 7200 16mb deal at newegg a few years ago for $105 look even greater. Of course, I got a 5 year warranty...

  19. Now see, I stopped buying maxtor for over a year because the quality went down the toilet. I have not bought one since Seagate bought them out because the warranty that comes with the seagate is 3 or 5 years depnding on the model where most maxtors are 1 year now.

all of the drives are SATA 2 Drives????????? and what sucks is the MOBO has 3 IDE channels, and only one supports optical devices!!!!
