  1. For watching movies from the PC to the TV, which is better for de-interlaceing? Nvidia's Pure Video or ATI's Avivo? I am looking for the picture that will have the smoothest look... the least amount of jaggies. I have read several reviews and the Pure Video seems to beat the Avivo in this department, but I read in all the reviews that ATI was supposed to release new drivers to make Avivo superior but I haven't couldn't find any recent reviews.

I do not know the answer of your question but I use nVidia Pure Video with my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro with great results. You don't need a nVidia card to use Pure Video.

Well if you have one of the later Geforce 7 series nvidia cards that you will be able to use all of the features of Pure Video. Couple that with ffdshow and your results will be amazing.

You can use the nVidia decoder with any card that supports DXVA, but you need a nVidia card to use all the features of pure video.

  5. I've used PureVideo on both Nvidia and ATI cards, and there is some improvements using it on a Nvidia. I have the ATI card with PV connected to a 50" plasma, and it still looks wonderful.

I use purevideo with a geforce 6600GT and there's a great difference! It's the cheapest alternative for what purevideo can give too

  7. I have an NVIDIA 6800 GS/XT and although I did get my content (.ts files) to play smoothly in the beginning with it , after tweaking it( I wish I hadn't), I can't seem to get it to work. I just experience stutters and interlace lines, no matter what I settings I choose. I've tried back tracking back and unistalling and reinstalling, but , no dice. heh

  10. If you are watching on a standard definition TV via your computer's s-video or composite output, leaving the video interlaced will give the best picture if your card is configured correctly.

    How are you connecting?

How do you have the TV output set up?

What players are you using to drive the TV output?

  14. I'm going from DVI to HDMI. I've tried nearly every player I can find and tried tonnes of different filter configurations. When I first set this up on my desktop PC I just downloaded Pure video and everything worked fine for about two days. I have tried an entire system reinstall. The files that I'm trying to play are MPEG-TS and although they do play, I can either get them to play with interlace lines or with jerkiness. My cpus are bearly breaking a sweat, so it kind of rules out the possibility of them not being able to handle HD . After about 2 days of this, I'm on the verge of giving up.

  15. What player software are you using? Have you tried VLC with its deinterlacing options?

Yeah I have , VLC seems to be amongst the worst actually. It'll deinterlace fine but the jerkiness on my LCD TV is then horrible. In the begnning, I had success with media player classic.Even this now has unpleasing results.

Did you actually re-format the HDD and start from stratch or did you just try to re-install the OS over the existing install?

I ask because the first method is really the only way to get back to "virgin" status.

Yeah and this is what is driving me insane. This should be working, but not even these extreme measures are working.

Infact even when playing DVD's and enabling Purevideo in powerdvd, play back on my TV it ridiculously stuttering. I also tried switching the graphics card with one that is identical to it, to check to see if it's was faulty, and I still played back jerky.
