  1. Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on creating a menu with a motion filmstrip
that runs upwards (or downwards or even sideways perhaps) that contains motion thumnails playing through the moving filmstrip.

I've created my still background menu image already in Photoshop and have good knowledge on
how to perpare the transparent area of the menu for the motion clip to play through and all
of that, I'm just basically looking for a quick way to create a motion filmstrip clip, ie software
suggestions for creating such <or> web info on where a similar clips can be found - <free>
stock footage would be of choice.

if anyone has seen any of the Rosanne dvd episodes, that type of menu is what
    I'm wanting to design.

Here are a few apps that I have to work with: Adobe Photoshop, Ulead's Cool 3D & Movie Factory,
Womble's Mpeg Video Wizard, Cyberlink Power Producer.

    Thanks to all who reply.

DVD Lab Pro has three variations on filmstrips built in, with wizards to set up the strip based on chapter points. I believe these are stills by default, but you can probably make them motion if you want.

I would do it with photoshop and my editor (Vegas) to create the backgrounds, then import them to my authoring apps (DLP2) and go from there. I guess easy is in the eye of the beholder.

Thanks guns1inger for your suggestion ---- I been there and done that with the built-in film strip in DVDLP. Yes, you're right they are only stills. Yep I see where one can turn the individual chapter thumbnails into motion ones, however, I'm looking to have the entire strip move, ya' know scroll left or right, up or down.

This might be more the way to go. Do you know if I were to perpare a image of a filmstrip in Photoshop and import it in to Vegas, does Vegas have the right tools to make it scroll? I really don't know anything about Vegas, I may have to see about buying it but would like to be certain that it has this particular capability before investing. Is there a full function demo available?

    Thanks again

Yes, you can easliy animate the movement of the film strip with keyframes. But you would have to set everything up manually in vegas - no wizards or simple button clicks.
