My work PC has hyper threading which I am told means that it can process multiple threads at once??

If this is tru, what does my dual core processor on my home PC do that a HT single core PC doesnt do?

Also is there a difference between a Pentium D dual core and a core 2 duo??

Well, my Pentium D 920 @ 3GHz is a lot faster than a P4 3.2GHz @ 3.4GHz when rendering a the same DV movie into MPEG2. Using TMPGEnc at highest quality.

Hyper threading is like basically fake dual core. It does speed up some apps though because it gets more out of the CPU.

Its REAL effect was to basically get people building their apps to take advantage of the bit of extra performance. In turn those apps were ready to take advantage of real Dual Core performance because of it.
