Hi, I've been trying to find an solution for this all year so I thought Id try posting. Sometimes I need to add custom sized letterbox bars to cover up video glitches (at the top/bottom of the pic). I've used TMPGEnc to do it, and it does the job, the only problem is that it takes 14 hours to recode the video. So I've been looking for another program that can do the same thing only quicker. I know Womble MPEG Wizard lets you edit an mpeg and doesn't have to recode the whole thing, but it doesn't have the option to add the bars. The other day I read on Canopus' site that Let's Create DVD lets you add bars and doesn't take long to encode, but it costs $67 and I can't afford it. They don't let you download a trial version either. I've also read people say that VideoReDo lets you add a custom matte, and same with CCE. Anyone know if either of these are my best bet or if there's something else that can add bars and not take as long to encode? Would appreciate any help, thanks a lot.

Even Womble has to reencode every frame that's affected by your change(s). To mask out anything in a video, it has to be reencoded, at least for the frames you want to mask. There's no escaping that. TMPGEnc might not be the fastest encoder there is, but no matter what you go for, it will take a considerable amount of time, and reduce your overall picture quality.
