Most will only upscale on the HDMI port. You can hook it up YPbPr and see if there are upscale menus. If not, use 480p (normal progressive).

What are the model numbers of your DVD player and TV?

Also, what do you mean by "DTV Input"? Do you mean internal DTV tuner?

The TV is a Mitsubishi WS-55711 and DVD player is a Sony DVP-CX985V 400 Disc Progressive DVD / SACD Player. I think it is a DTV Tuner

    Nice TV. This review

says Mitsubishi might offer a DVI or HDMI upgrade. The VGA port is only good for 640x480.

I don't see where the DVP-CX985V supports upscale anyway, but it will do progressive.

You would have to find a DVD player that upscales to 1080i over YPbPr or just use 480p. There won't be a great deal of difference.

I have 2 Sony DVP-CX995V players. I use them with YrPrPb Component out at 480P and they work fine with my (Older) video projector. If I upgrade the setup to HDMI, they are ready for that also. The menu system is a pain in the ass and they are a little slow on disc selection, but I really like them otherwise.
