  1. I just ran across a problem, that I have never encountered before. I usually tape some episodes of a show, when it is on once a week. When I get four 23 minute episode, I usually make a DVD. I have a seperate track for each episode. Now when I burn the DVD, I can usually select on the main page, each episode name and go to its introduction page and then play it on our stand alone DVD Players.

But the DVD I just created, I can't select the second episode title, it won't highlight, it seems to skip right over it. I have never experienced this before, and I can't think of what I could of done, that would of caused this. When it is on my computer, after I have authorized the DVD, I can select the individual titles, with my computer mouse. It is happening soley on the stand alone DVD Player.

Thank you in advance for any information, you can give me on this matter.

Bad media? Is it possible this is on the outside ring of the dvd? Sometimes bad discs will lock up on the outside edges toward the end of the dvd. Try to encode at a lower bitrate so you don't fill up the full disc.

Also copy the dvd onto another disc and see if it happens again. If it doesn't happen again than it was simply a bad disc.

  3. yoda313: I used Tmpgenc DVD Author 1.6 to author the DVD and used ImgBurn 2.0 to build the ISO file. ImgBurn 2.0 told me that that this would be 72 percent of the Disc. So there is quite a distance between this video and the outer edge. I am using Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD+R's.

I thought that I had the chapter boxes too close together on the screen, so I spaced them further apart and the second DVD I authorized had the same result. Thank you for your input. I hate to think these Taiyo Yuden, are bad, I am sure they are geniune. On our one stand alone DVD Player, I was able to select the second episode by going into a Navigation Menu, but I shouldn't have to go to that much trouble and I suspect if I just had selected the "Play All" button, I would of been able to see that episode. But I have got used to being able to just select on the main menu, and then going right to that episode.

I am going to have to stop doing other things on the computer, while a DVD is being authorized. Sometimes I surf the net, or I am recording something with the capture card. This probably leads to something like this happening. Thanks once again, yoda313, it was kind of you to provide the information you did. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this subject?

  4. I think I have found out what the problem was. I design my own custom DVD Backgrounds, and chose certain fonts and colours for the track text. The font size I chose was too big, and when I was typing in the track name, I think this caused some of the track text to overlap on other track text, resulting in one not being able to be selected at the main menu.

I went back in, and change the text size, and spaced them further apart and saved this as a new theme. This time it worked. So it seems to me it is better to have your text smaller, so there isn't any overlapping. I am sure there is someone out there that can explain this all better than me. But I think this is what the problem was. When one is making DVD's when it comes to TV Series, it saves alot of time to design your own backgrounds, then work with the text options available in Tmpgenc DVD Author 1.6 and then save a theme. I am going to try to avoid making this error again. Maybe someone else will learn from my mistakes as well.

I think you need to take in to account TV OVERSCAN. That is the visible area of the dvd menu. At least in TDA 2.0 there is an OVERSCAN layout button to show you were the menu tapers off on the actual tv image.

It does not have to do with "overscan" areas as i have had this problem and even being so far off the screen you can't read half of it, they will still work if they are spaced properly.

Also besides making them a smaller font, i found this by having this problem a few times some time back, you can do below.

I had this exact same problem even when they did not cross over each other.
When i would make episode dvd's with say 10 episodes per disc and the name of one of the episodes was long so it would go almost across the whole screen they had to be a long ways above and below each other or i would have this problem.

But by making that one title into two lines (still the same link just using the enter bar in the middle of the sentance) you can now pack them in closer,

"One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish"
    Changed to
    "One Fish, Two Fish,
    Blowfish, Blue Fish"

Will allow you to put title links closer together.

I had this problem acouple of times in DVD-lab PRO also then i figured out what the problem was.

TSUNAMI-MPEG DVD Author PRO & DVD-lab PRO have a function where you can simulate the menu's, test the links and have them highlight and take you trhough the whole dvd as if you were playing it, without even authoring it, to make sure all your links highlight & work.

TDA 1.5 & 1.6 do not have this feature.
