hi all, 1st post here tho ive been using this site for years. im in the market for a digital camera (ebay ) and was comparing the quality of my analog cam (sony ccd trv 308)with a tv card and my dads digital cam (sony dcr trv720) using the firewire line into my computer. but for some reason once ive captured the dv file the playback is too fast. whats wierd is i was able to get the playback at normal speed the 1st time i viewed it (only sometimes), but after that its like at 125% speed. i have tried using virtual dub 1.6.16, windv, and ScLive for capturing and have gotten the same results. i viewed the files in wmp, dscaler, avipreview and divx with the same results. the avi's ive captured have been around 700mb with no effect, yet the dv files are only around 100mb, so its not like my comp is struggling to show them. my comp is:

    dell xps
    -3.2 GHz
    -2 GB ram
    -700GB hd
    -haupauge (sp?) wintv go pci
-xp home edi w/ sp 2
-i bought the computer around 03 and my sound card hasd a firewire port on it which is newer then then the camera
-my dad uses a mac with that same camera with no problems, so its gotta be my comp
    -fresh reformat 2 weeks ago

ive googled this problem and have come up with either a firewire card thats not up to date with the camera, or a slow computer. as pointed out, this comp was purchased way after the sony digi was, and this computer is pretty damn fast and has no problems with uncompressed avi files. plz help, im out of ideas and i dont wanna buy a digi and have this same problem. thx!

  2. Too fast or too slow is usually a codec problem.

  3. Try capturing with Movie Maker and see if it does the same thing (Movie Maker should be on your system by default).

After the "Fresh Reformat 2 Weeks Ago" did you download from Dell's Support Site all the latest drivers:

Chipset, BIOS, and (probably) Audigy. Especially the ATI drivers?

well the codec shows as DV Video Decoder which i assume is the only format for DV as thats what the above apps gave me. and my drivers should be all up to date since i used the dell resource cd. i will try win movie maker and see if that helps. thx for the suggestions, keep them coming

well i just went and converted the dv to uncompressed avi and it seemed to help. i googled dv video decoder and a sony thread came up so i googled sony dv video decoder and theres a pack out with an updated codec so ill try that one out
