    Hello.
This is my first post because I'm new to this converting and burning thing.
I have an avi file that I'd like to burn to a DVD, but when I try to do so with ConvertX To DVD it tells me it's too big for a single DVD.
    Here's what GSpot tells me:

I have no idea what to do, despite looking around at these and other forums.
Is somebody able to point me in the right direction?
    Thanks in advance.

ConvertXtoDVD if you are going to do a few - worth paying for. Otherwise, try the freeware version DivxtoDVD. Less options, but it will do what you need.

ConvertX should let you do it any way. Then use DVDShrink on it.

I've converted similar Xvids with ConvertXToDVD and they usually come out less than 2GBs in size. I'm not sure what is happening. But I would go ahead and run it through also and see what comes out.

    And welcome to our forums.

It's less than 2 hours long, so there should be no problem to fit on one DVD.

I've used an older version of DivXtoDVD and it always worked efficiently.

If you want to try another (free) app that does the whole thing, try Avi2DVD.

  6. No matter what method you use, quality won't be good so don't take pains unless that is the ONLY option you have.

The reason is, the video that you are starting with is compressed at 691kbps and the Quality factor is less than 2.0 (Qf=1.66) This video may look good on PC screen but you lose quality in all conversions so I am sounding an alarm for your final output.

As far as fitting video onto a DVD, usually if you start off from the best source, say DV then 90 minutes video fits well onto a DVD but you could choose a bitrate of 3mbps for your DVD and it will fit the whole video onto one DVD.

Hello again, and thank you for the welcome and the advice.
This looks like an excellent place to learn everything I'll need to know about this kind of thing.
I'll try running this thing through Convert X To DVD and then DVD Shrink and I'll see how it goes.
indijay, thank you for the extra detail and the warning. I'm not sure I understood your final paragraph, though.
I'll try the suggested method and just see how it comes out.
