How do I make a copy of a DVD Video for my car that only has the songs on it?

I would like it to be just like a regular CD of the same songs.

This DVD is a rock concert and each song on the DVD has the accompanying video. On the DVD I can select each track separately.

If I can make a CD out of this it would be great, but I can't figure which programs/settings to use to accomplish this on my Mac.

    Thanks,

    1. MTR the DVD: option Title/Demux.
Yields QT movie (M2V) and AAC file.
    2. mAC3dec converts AAC file to AIFF.
    3. Amadeus or Audacity to break up the
    long soundfile into tracks.
    4. Drag the tracks onto a new iTunes
    playlist and burn the CD.

Was I a tad too terse?

After ripping the DVD you can do this easily with Cinematize. You can export the audio only as AIFF with separate titles by chapter.

You also can do it with Toast 7 but its a little more complicated. Extract each chapter from the Toast Media Browser to the Video window, select the titles and click the Export button to save as AIFF.

Then burn as an audio CD.

  4. Whichever method you choose, make sure that you opt to convert the audio sample rate from 48kHz to 44.1kHz, either at the mAC3dec stage in the first method or at the Export stage if you use Toast.

If you split the big file with Audacity etc, you will very likely produce files that have sector boundary errors; I'm not sure about Toast. If the songs flow into each other on the DVD you may get an audible tic at the track splits.

You can check if your tracks have been split on sector boundaries by running them through shntool. This is most easily accessed via xACT (shntool tab, len button option).

If you get an output with a "b" in the cdr column, like this:
    Code:
length expanded size cdr WAVE problems filename
         1:57.00 20638844 -b- -- ---xx 01 Hands (Instrumental).flac
         4:11.35 44358764 -b- -- ---xx 02 Intimate Secretary.flac
         3:58.68 42143180 -b- -- ---xx 03 Level.flac
you need to make sure that the files are named so they sort in the order you want them to play on your CD and then run them through xACT's fix SBE function. Make sure they appear in the correct order in the window, select AIFF as your output format and hit the Fix button.

I'll add a fourth way, that works for me. YMMV.

    Insert DVD into mac.
    Launch Audio Hijack Pro.
Set hijacked app to DVD Player.
Set destination as AIFF, 44khz, 16bit stereo,
    to folder on Desktop.

    Launch DVD Player.
    Hijack and record DVD Player.

    From there:

    Step one : play song.
Step Two: At end of song, Stop recording in Audio Hijack.
Step Three: Cue next song ( via chapter marks, ffscan, whathave
you), Record again in Audio Hijack.

Rinse, repeat until all songs are done, in order I want.

    Then, quit all apps.
Open destination of songs in Finder, rename songs,
drag and drop into iTunes playlist, burn CD in iTunes.
