Just curious to hear some feedback on performance when rendering projects?

  2. Have the 4400 X2, and it is awsome. When rendering to MPEG, Vegas makes full use of the CPUs, and it is many times faster than my old Pentium IV (2 GHz).

4400 is a lil more powerful than the 3800, but that's good to know

Doesn't Intel generally perform better when rendering than AMD?

All other things being equal, (Which they never are. ) CPU speed is the most important factor for encoding speed. Intel and AMD have gotten fairly close in performance. It may come down to the motherboard chipset, how memory is handled, bus speeds and a lot of other factors to determine which performs better in certain operations. Even dual CPUs may not be faster if the encoder programs don't make use of their capabilities. Same thing with 64bit CPUs compared to 32bit and the operating systems used.

At least in the past, the big difference was price. AMD had more 'bang for the buck', but Intel is competitive again with pricing. But I still like AMD.

EDIT: I have a 3800+ AMD AM2 Athlon in one of my computers, but it's not a X2.

Does vegas recognize the Dual CPU?

Is it automatic? Or are there any configuration changes we should make to take full advantage? Does that mean rendering should be 2wice as fast on a Dual CPU machine?

No, two CPUs are not twice as fast as one CPU. There are other bottlenecks, and there are dependencies in software that makes it close to impossible to get twice the speed of once CPU out of two CPUs. Two are plenty faster than one though.
