Very nice, thanks for the heads up.

I remember my first NEC CDR/RW burner was $800. This will help even that score .

Oh sure. Where were you a couple weeks ago. I just bought one for about $40.

Just kidding, timing has never been my strong point.

Tigerdirect has that DVD writer for $19.99 (after rebate, of course).

Guess this is the big NEC blowout!

What tiger direct doesn't tell you up front on that page is that they charge $12 to ship this item to you. Tigerdirect sometimes has a deal but lately they have been a ripoff especially on their shipping charges and the quality of container when it arrives. I still regularly get products from them but I just thought I would warn you that their shipper quality and cost of shipping has gone into the toilet.

Shipping cost depends on where you are so it doesn't make sense to post a shipping charge with the item (unless they do a free shipping promotion). You can easily find out the shipping cost before you place your order. (Shipping to me would be $9.73, not $12) If you think it's too much, buy somewhere else. I have not experienced any problems with the shipping on any item from them, lately or ever. If you're having problems, you should voice your concerns to them so they can do something about it.

Always do. Tamika and Calvin(my tigerdirect account reps) have both been very understanding when I explain to them how some items and packaging have been received. This hasn't changed the way they ship but I always make a point of telling one of them whoever is there when I order next what my previous shipment was like. Cal has gotten in the habit of asking me before I start giving him order numbers how my previous shipment was.

OnRebate.COM is pretty good about their rebates. They only accept up to 8 rebates per customer per year which I usually fill before MLK Day in January. After this you are considered a distributor by them and all further rebates for that calendar year will be denied. No other rebate company or manufacturer does this which is kind of a negative in my opinion.

I have never had any problems with Tigerdirect, but tons with Newegg. I'll take the higher shipping cost. Newegg actually costs more for me with the sales tax, let alone the anticipated RMA.

I think they both have taken a step backwards when it comes to shipping. I have had zero problems with both of them and can recommend doing business with both. But like I said for someone like me after the first 15-20 days of the start of the new year most of their rebates are of zero value to me since I do not qualify.
