Hi, Ive got a Pioneer 420H (about 2 years old) whose burner gave up the ghost last week(another post).
Been looking at a friends new Panasonic EX85 which seems to be full of bells and whistles, Freeview, 250GB HDD etc. The thing is he doesn't have anywhere near the copying functionallity that my old machine had. He doesn't seem to have a high speed copying facility as most DVDs just won't copy for him or if they do it will only be copied to the HDD at single speed.
......Whereas, I could stick pretty much any kind of unprotected disk into my Pioneer 420H (copies of movies, programmes recorded from TV, dvds from my computer, music etc) and churn out a backup copy at high speed (max 15 min each way)
So, have the newer recorders generally got a higher level of protection control or is this a Panasonic thing?
Can anybody recomend a recorder that has high speed copying?
John

I believe the high-speed disc duplicating feature is unique to Pioneer DVD recorders with hard drives. Have you considered having the recorder repaired by a service center?

Hi Frobozz,
It's a bit strange if it's only Pioneer have the high speed duplicating feature. Looks to me like the manufacturers all tend to do the same thing as the technology moves on i.e. Freeview, bigger HDDs etc.
To be honest I think my friend was a bit hacked off when he seen that his new Panansonic Ex85 (£500!!) couldn't do what my older Pioneer could do (It's about 3 years old.)
Yes, I'm considering getting my burner repaired (I was looking for some help in another post to see if I could maybe do it myself) but according to the UK site there are no "local" Pioneer service centers (Nottingham). Unless anybody can recommend a place near Glasgow????? living in Oregon, hows your geography??
Thought I might treat myself to a new machine and get the old one fixed up for my lad. Don't think it will be a Panasonic EX85 though!!
Anybody got any other machine recomendations?

The newer Pioneer 531H and 640H can do it too. I also have never seen another dvd recorder with this feature. Pioneer developed dvd-r so it is possible being so early in the game, that they may have a patent on this feature if it is in a dvd recorder.
