Is the video hardsubbed? If it is, do a search on overscan.

If not, use DVDSubEdit to position the subtitles a bit higher.

    Yes.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

  5. SVCDs usually have the subs burned in. Sounds like an overscan issue to me.

nirbhayn, do you even know whether or not your subs are selectable? If they're not, all you can do is reencode, adding black around the outside so the subs become visible.

  7. OK, my mistake then. You said also that they were half off the bottom, and now you can't see them at all?

If they're on the DVD but too low, then you take träskmannen's advice and use DVDSubEdit to raise them. Here's the guide:

    https://www.videohelp.com/~DVDSubEdit/UserManual/helpfile.htm

Section 2.7 explains how to raise them and sec. 2.1 explains how to apply and save the changes for all subs.
