I've captured videos from sites such as youtube, google video and ifilm. Most of the time, I can convert these files to mp4's but there are certain ifilm clips which give me a message that flash 8 is not supported. Are there different types of flv formats? and what does ffmpeg recognize? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What bitrate do you use when you convert Youtube files to MP4 to ensure there is no quality loss?

    Thanks.

I'm really not an expert at conversion- I 've just been using iSquint to convert flv files to mp4's. I use it's default settings and it works great. But, with iFilm, I get a response that iSquint can't convert flash 8 files because ffmpeg doesn't recognize this format. So, somehow, it seems that iSquint is using ffmpeg? If iFilm uses flash 8, what is youtube using? If anyone out there has any answers, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I use Total Video Converter to convert Youtube FLVs to MP4 and other formats. Works like a charm.
