  2. Rip the disc with your computer, then burn a copy. The copy will be region free.
Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

Yes but can his DVD player output PAL or can the TV accept NTSC?
I would buy a multisystem DVD player.

  5. Another option is to make a HTPC out of an old PC,nothing fancy is needed just a DVD-ROM and a videocard with TV out.

  6. news flash!!! i just received an used dvd player from my neighbor here so of course the first i did was check the list but, unlucky me got another model that seems to not have a hack list....i think i am just perpetually doomed. anybody got anything on a DUAL HSC 500....one's gotta try right. think i might just go MAcGyver and build one like moviegeek suggested...

Buy a new player. If I spent about 20 minutes, I could dig up the contact info for a Netherlands company that can convert any DVD player to multi-region with hardware mods, but it could more and take longer than just buying a cheap, new player, so it's not worth the effort for me or you.

Are you having to use a step-down voltage converter on your DVD player to get European power to it? If so, it's probably not really worth it in the long run and you'd be better off to just buy a player in France. I've read that step-down converters don't always change the cycles of the power they send out and your devices will run hot in that case and the higher European cycles may shorten their lifespan. Of course your player might be one that can run on 110/240, in which case this concern doesn't apply to you.

  9. absolutely right about the power cycle. it does run hotter because of step up so i don't leave it plugged in all the time. eventually it will get the best of it ( fyi to all you expats). i tried bringing a european appliance to the states for a gift and the step down converter is like a boat anchor. so lets just say my electric raclette maker wasn't as popular as i thought. so yes, on my way to carrefour to buy a cheap model. thanks everyone. u rock
