Here is the deal. I am kind of interested in some External speakers for my Laptop. I have looked around at some avertisements, but what I realy want is some real world input.

Something portable enough to fit in a back pack for my laptop.
Battery powered perferred (I think) one less cord to deal with but multi powered is fine too.
Wireless would be sweet if there is such an animal or atleast some kind of cord management hooks or spool.
Folding or compact or low profile
Rugged (Keep in mind that I am an big dumb Olf)
Cheap! OK sub $50 would be sweet but at $100 they better be able to shatter glass and clean up the mess.

The thing is my IBM P-51 has really crappy speakers. I would like to play some tunes or live feeds while on some jobsites. I can take it or leave it, but I would like to do for some of the guys at work. Sometimes it is kind of a big deal for them to miss a race or game when they have to work on weekends. Radios are usually not allowed on most jobsites, but if I am not the one running the job I usually have enough pull to to check scores and such.

    Comments, suggestions?

    USB Powered Speakers

Get a pair of these. They are small, fold up for easy storage and use a USB port for power. Don't let the size fool you. They sound pretty good for compact speakers. The convenience of their portability is great.

Here's one that may work, but I have no idea how they sound. They run off the USB port for power and seem fairly compact. http://us.kensington.com/html/5462.html

The sell for about $35 from Dell or other online companies.

EDIT: Now that's funny, ROF, we ended up with the same one.

No, the sick part is that I was looking at an ad for those before I posted. The USB part is what made me start to think about wireless.

I worked around a woman that had a single little speaker box hooked up to an early Ipod or something and I was really impressed at how good some compact speakers put out nowadays. I don't mind paying for quality, the problem is I ain't up to speed with what is new out there and what is good.
