Vegas 4 makes no claim to do any of that

It will understand uncompressed avi in something like YUY2 format so prepare your source.
It has no output to Ipod. You need to figure that one out.

I think Vegas 4 predates Ipod video anyway.

As edDV stated, no. The iPod does not recognize AVI formats. Video has to be converted to a different container type - .MP4 - with some restrictions, I believe. If you don't mind installing additional software, you're probably better off installing SUPER or one of the other iPod video converters mentioned in the Tools section to the left.

"AVI" can be any of many formats but the way you stated it often means downloaded MPeg4 (divx, xvid, etc). You would need to convert it to DV format or fully decompress to YUV or RGB for Vegas 4 to accept it. Likewize Vegas 4 has no MPeg4 encoding capability that would be required for iPod.

You could edit decompressed video in vegas 4.

You would need an external "AVI" decoder and an external MPeg4 encoder.

    Per Apple:
    "H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec.,
Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
    MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec.,
Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats"

ok, I understand. Forgive me if I've asked some dumb questions. I was just wondering if the vegas 4 version had this option since its a program filled with opitons. Thanks ed and Ai, and everyone who replied.

BJ_M are you saying vegas 6 has the option for this, I can convert videos that the ipod will understand.
