    Hi all,

I was looking at getting a consumer DVD player that I can use to play a multitude of formats and types/brand of media. I am mostly interested in playing DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW.

It seems to me that the Samsungs HD play quite a lot. However I am very confused and overwhelmed between the HD850, 860, 950, and 960. Which does anyone recommend? Can anyone explain the differences?

There is a post on here: https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=292168&highlight=hd950
That says that the 950 can't play .mpg's over 2gig. Does anyone know if this is fixed in the 960?

    Thanks in advance!

The x60's are the latest versions of the x50's. The 960 supports DVD-Audio, SACD, and 5.1-Channel analog outputs for SACD, DVD-A w/ Bass Management, the 860 does not.

The 2 gig file limit is a limitation of the type of disc formatting and also affects pc's.

Does anyone with either the 860 or 960 mind testing QPEL encoded files, DivX and especially XviD GMC 3?

Anyone mind taking some pictures of the directory display of the 860 or 960? If not, do you mind describing it? How many characters displayed per file? How many files listed at once? Easy to navigate?

Does either load video relatively quickly? Photos?

How does it handle external subtitles (srt, sub, smi)? Are they placed close to the bottom? Easy to read?

When playing files (MP3, DivX, JPEG), does it advance to the next on its own?

When running a slideshow divided into folders, does it advance to the next folder on its own? The Philips 5960 stops at the end of each folder. Then you have to navigate out of it and to the next on your own.

Can you play MP3s and run a slideshow simultaneously?

How well does it read DVD-RWs? Burned discs in general?

    Thanks.
