  1. If I'm already using the maximum SVCD bitrate possible as CBR, is there any reason to use VBR setting? Or would I only use VBR to make longer SVCDs and thus drop the average bitrate below maximum.

    I'm satisfied with how much SVCD material I can put on a 700MB disc at 2600kbps, so could VBR settings even improve my SVCDs?

    no vbr wont improve quality but it can achieve the same quality in a much smaller filesize. Using vbr can turn a 6 cdr rip into a 3 cdr rip with the exact same level of quality.

    If your video is very short or you dont mind using extra cdrs than cbr is fine.
