Assuming this software has resized correctly, nothing has been cut off. You can confirm this by playing the DVD back on your PC. If the edges have been cut off, then the software is at fault, ad should be ditched in favour of something that works.

What is most likely happening is called Overscan (look it up in the glossery). The display on your TV (all TVs) extends beyond the visible edge. This means that some of your image is covered by the bezel (surround) of the screen. This happens on all videos and DVDs.

I am willing to bet Lord Smurf's car (damned if I'll bet my own) that you are converting fan0subbed anime and your subs are being cut-off.

If this is the case, do a search using the keywords Overscan and FitCD and you will find dozens, perhaps hundreds, of posts on the topic and the solution to your woes. You will still have to ditch your cheap and cheerful one-click-wonder software and get your hands dirty though.

If the image is wider than 16:9. 16:9 is equivilent to approx 1.78:1. Most widescreen film is 1.85:1 or 2.35:1, along with a quite a fiew variations in between. All of these will get some degree of letterboxing. 1.85 will get just a few lines of black top and bottom. 2.35:1 will get almost a third of a screen full.

no - see what overscan is ....

if you dont want it - you will have to add borders to all sides

Isn't there anyway to do this without encoding. I get terrible results when I re-encode using QUENC. Any suggestions?

No, re-encoding is required since you are changing size and formats. If you are getting terrible results from QuEnc then you are doing something wrong as it is a very good encoder.
