  1. has anybody ever heard of this?? ive put this on lay by and its REAL cheap (AUD: $500) ... I cannot find any mention of this thing online ... I cant even find a website for the manufacturers!?!? Who the heck are AWA??

It has a 12 month warrenty anyhow, but my other problem is that is it region 4 only ... is there any known way I can crack it? I found this website: http://www.regionfreedvd.net/player/awa.html ... would that work on a different version though?

    Thanks!!

A 12-month warranty with whom? You can't even find the manufacturer. Who will work on it? Can that repair center get a service manual? Who will reimburse anyone who does work on it? Hopefully the vendor you buy it from is known to you as a reliable source who stands behind the products they sell, just in case you decide to return it for a refund.

  3. Fortunately the vendor is a fairly massive all-kinds-of-crap store: Big W ... they wont be running away from me because I WORK THERE! lol ...

Yeah, I'd say that was a vendor known to you as a reliable source. Got me there! So I guess you'll be getting the store's extended warranty contract and not worry about who the manufacturer deals with for warranty repair.

It seems even more strange, though, that an employee can't find the manufacturer of a product your store sells. That seems a pretty basic piece of information.

  5. Well, this is what it says on the last page of the manual:

"AWA brand is imported and sold under license by Big W Discount Stores, 3 City View Rd Pennant Hills, NSW"

Is this, like, normal? A brand dedicated to one dicount store like Big W?

  6. After some digging around, it has been found that the AWA W1090 is a re-badged Daewoo 2945 aka GoVideo 2945!

Now ... does anyone know the hack for that!?

Hey! I was in Big W the other day and am considering purchasing a similar model (the AWA W1090) so I found out the number for warranty and repairs for AWA. It’s 1300 366 144 and the company is called Telefix. Anyway they said to follow these instructions to make it region free:

Have no disc in the tray
    Press the set-up key
    Go to system info
    Enter 1101
    Press OK
    Enter Code 0

Then that’s it. Please let me know if this works or not as I have DVD’s from Canada (NTSC Region 2), England (PAL Region 2) as well as (obviously) Australia (PAL Region 4) and I won’t purchase this item if this code doesn’t work but I think that we are talking about the same machine (except they have changed the model number from Z to W).

    Good Luck
