I had been burning to Verbatim DVD-R disks (16X, 2hr, 4.7GB), and everything worked fine. When I ran out of disks, I bought a pack of Imation DVD-R disks (16X, 2hr, 4.7GB), but the computer won't write to those Imation disks. I keep getting "error writing to disk" messages or the like. The same problem occurs with all three of my DVD-burning software applications, i.e., they all worked fine burning to the Verbatim disks, but they are all now choking on the Imation disks. The answer is probably a slam dunk, but right now I can't figure it out. I've made no other changes to the computer, either hardware or software. (I am running Win XP on a Pentium 4 platform, 1.8GHz, with two USB2 external DVD burners.) Can anyone offer me a suggestion?

The problem might be the manufacturer of that disc. The name on the disc doesn't often mean much. You can read the media code with a program like DVDInfoPro and see who really made the disc and possibly the quality of the disc.

I switched to TY discs, among the best media, and I no longer have problems. If you have to buy locally, find out what the media code is and you may have fewer problems.

A good source for DVD media info is: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/index.htm

Each burner may have a preference for a type or brand of disc. You can likely find out the preferred disc by looking to 'DVD Writers' to the left. <<<<<<<

Though likely not your problem, check your burners to see that they are in DMA mode. If they are in PIO, that can cause problems. Nero Info Tools should be able to tell you their status.

Try lower the writing speed to 8x or even 4x
