Is there other software that I can use to capture TV input other than the application that came with my TV Tuner card or is it pretty much propriatary stuff?

I have an AVerTV GO 007 FM Plus TV Tuner card adapter. The adapter is fine. The software that came with it sucks.

Try VirtualVCR. It's free and it's good. At least worked well for me when I had a software encoder card.

Well that is one lttle wierd program. I went into the settings menu option and set the Channel to 3, Country to 1, Tuning Space to 0, Tuning Mode to TV, Video Standard to NTSC_M, Input to 1 and Antenna and clicked on Apply. The Apply button never came back from it's disabled state until I pushed the OK button then it became enabled again. Not sure if I really applied the settings. Appearently not because everytime I went back to the main screen I always got black, nothing else. While I was in the settings menu I could see video from the TV set as well as video from a VHS tape. Then I clicked on the Save settings menu option and it came back and said that my settings were saved as the default. Not true. Every time I launched the program I got a black screen. I had to go back to settings and the settings were set to what they were before I made the changes. So I had to make to changes again and save them again. But again the program does not save the settings.

OK, so I went into the folder where the program was installed and edited the .INI file manually by changing the Channel to 3 and all the other settings that I had already done in the setting option panel. OK, I finally got video now from both TV and VCR but there is no sound. I have no idea what to do to get sound.

If that is a semi standard Conexant chip based card, there are many.

If you are looking for a shortcut, a few bucks (amout depending on shopping skills) gets you ULead Video Studio. It is a good starting point with minimal negatives other than too many features.

I have Video Studio, I just didn't know it could do that.

Ok, I used VS to capture from the TV-Tuner adapter but still no sound.

If I use the software that came with the capture card I get sound.

These cards use the sound card for audio. Some use a cable to connect tuner audio out to line in on the sound card, others exchange audio through the PCI bus. Consult your documentation or call AverMedia support.

OK, thanks, but before you posted above I got it to work. I just went in and started to play with some options on VS.

I think VS is alot better than that other application besides VS gives me more output formats to choose from while that other only gave AVI as output.

Anyway, thanks for the info about VS; I never knew it could capture through a capture adapter.

A video source is a video source.

Next you'd be surprised that VLC and VDubMod can see your TV TUner.
