    Hi,

I just converted a 500mb avi movie and the output was a 1.5gb mpeg. Is this normal (i'm a newbie), or did something go wrong?

It's only a low quality movie (smr) so I don't know why it tripled the size. If this is actually normal, does that mean I have to split the mpeg up so I can burn them as VCD?

    Thanks.

  2. that will depend on the format that you used and capture size. (mpeg1 or mpeg2 or mpeg4) mpeg2 creates a small video file then mpeg1

The MPEG (no matter if MPEG-1 or MPEG-2) filesize depend on the playing time and the total bitrate (incl. menus, subs, audio, video). VCD is about 10 MB / min.

10MB/Min?? Even if it's low quality? Shit, the 1500MB file must be right then, since the movie is ~150mins long.

Would it be worth it to convert this SMR video file into VCD? I've read somewhere that SMR converts to VCD very badly.

PS. This board must be the busiest I have ever seen. I just posted this yesterday, and now it's into the 3rd page already!

  5. well.. if you want you can make a vbr mpeg1 and use the bitrate calculator to figure out the bitrate you need to set tmpgenc at to fit it on 1 disc. you have to have a dvd player that can play xVCD. you can drop the sound to 128 kb/sec (the source is probably much less) that groups releases are compressed at like 400 kb/sec so dropping the mpeg to about 740 megs will produce a vcd that looks close to the same as the origional avi.

use the mpeg1 vcd(ntsc) template (source fps doesnt matter cause that group only uses 20 fps) - the load the unload.mcf template and change the audio to 128 (or maybe a notch lower)
use 2 pass VBR (so you end up with the files size you asked for) set max bitrate to 1150 min to 200 and average to whatever the calculator says

burn as non-standard vcd and hope your dvd plays it
