Is it common that DVD+RWs recorded on standalone DVD recorders won't play on computer DVD burners? I have tried a number of programs, and none recognize the discs, indicating that thay are Audio CDs. They do play ok on a couple of desktop DVD players I tried them on.
The DVR is a LiteOn 5005, so I'm not sure whether this is unique to discs recorded on that particular burner, or whether this applies to other brands as well.

I use two ilo RHD04 units [made by LiteOn and the same] They are +R/RW machines
While I don't very often play on the PC I have not had any problems doing so with any Disks including commercial.
NO Offence, Can you play any DVD disk in the PC. Commercial or otherwise. The Bunner/Player may not accept DVD disks [it sounds as such]. Is it CD/DVD or CD only. Or your play program could be for CD Audio only. It sounds, from your posts that this is the first time that you have played such a disk on a PC
Are the disks burned from comercial disks. In Real Time using another DVD player
The LiteOn 5005 is a good unit Properly set up and hacked [older units] the disk should play -
This was the first time I tried to play back a couple of recorded DVD+RWs on the computer. No idea why the computer programs indicated they were audio CDs - they played alright on desktop DVD players.
Now I tried once more recording something on the LiteOn, using a brand new DVD+RW disk, and this time it played back no problem. Maybe the other disks had gotten too old - they were used daily for time shifting. *At least it wasn't a LiteOn problem... -
Using a Philips DVDR-75 (3yrs old) standalone to record on verbatim +RW.
Plays back on pc's with NEC 3540a, 3550a and I/O magic 1008, all with Winblows XP SP2.
Never had a problem with a pc not recognizing a recorded +RW recorded on the standalone.
Have had a few +R being seen as a CD though. Even after finalizing.
very confusing but I'll get over itMotherboard problems, not intermittant anymore!! -

Sounds as you have solved the problem. Can I assume that the disk you burned would play on a stand alone and the PC.
Sometimes I sware at the recorder But after I think about it I pushed the wrong putton' Just today I was merging some programs and What My progran is gone *%#$@#()*&%^ ilo. Than I stopped. The program was there I just had the wrong prigram highlighted when I pushed the enter button and merged the wrong program. It worked out but was a pain.
PS
You should take note of [pchman] post What he says has happned.
My wife says screw the DVD I want a VCR. She got it -

See I hit the wrong button and double post -
LCSHG:
It definitely turned out to be a disk problem, where the PC thought they were audio CDs, while the desktop players recognised them as being DVDs. Seems the new ones are ok now.
